Coordinated and monitored the long term establishment of the pollinating weevil, Elaeidobius kamerunicus which was imported from the Cameroons, West Africa in the 80's.


Determined the biology and life cycle of the most common bagworm species, Metisa plana. Produced a handbook with simplified keys for the identification of bagworm parasitoids and predators commonly affecting bagworm and nettle caterpillars. This information is also packed into a multimedia diagnostic tool, PARATOR V.1.0.


Determined the most suitable flowering plant for the propagation of insect parasitoid for the control of the bagworm. Initiated seed production of Cassia cobanensis for use by the Industry.


Developed suitable formulations of the entomopathogenic fungus, Metarhizium anisopliae for the control of Oryctes rhinoceros. The technology for the mass production of powder formulation of Metarhizium is open for adoption by the industry. Both powder and granule formulations were patented.


Identified the most effective local Oryctes rhinoceros virus strain for the control of the pest. Developed procedures to release of Oryctes virus in the field. Developed techniques to monitor the impact of the release of Oryctes virus in the field.


Determined several Cry genes of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) which are potent against Metisa plana. At the moment, MPOB has its own pilot plant for the production of Bt.


Commercialising Ecobac-1(EC)TM and Bafog-1(S) for control of lepidopteran insect pests.
