Workshop On Integrated Management Of Ganoderma Disease In Oil Palm

Malaysian Palm Oil Board through (MPOB) through Biological Research Division had successfully organized the Workshop on Integrated Management of Ganoderma Disease in Oil Palm on 3rd and 4th December 2014 at Promenade Hotel, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The workshop is officiated by the Director of Biological Research Division, Dr Norman Kamarudin, on behalf of the Chairman, Dato' Wan Khairil Wan Ahmad. In the opening remarks, he informed that this workshop is a good platform in sharing of ideas and experiences faced due to this devastating disease, besides to formulate new strategies in reducing the risk and spread of Ganoderma in the oil palm industry.

The one and half-day workshop consist of two parts; i) an oral presentation by key researchers from oil palm industry and academia and ii) a brainstorming session. In the brainstorming session, the invited participants were divided into three groups to discuss and refine the Standard Operating Procedures, Management Policies and Future Directions in Ganoderma.

The Exhibition session was conducted parallel with the other sessions during the Workshop. There were 15 posters which were categorized into three clusters: 1) Preventive Treatment for Ganoderma Disease; 2) Field Practices for Ganoderma Management; and 3) Ganoderma Detection Methods.

The workshop was attended by 65 participants from many personalities from different parts of the industry, in the government, oil palm industry, research institutions and academia.
